Parish

About

Our Lady of Sorrows, situated at 79 New Park Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106, is a historic Roman-Catholic parish that has been a cornerstone of the Parkville neighborhood since 1887. With its stunning Gothic-style architecture, the church has been a gathering place for the faithful for over a century, offering daily Mass, sacraments, and spiritual ministries. The parish's rich history dates back to its founding as a modest mission chapel, and it was elevated to parish status in 1895. The present church, designed by O'Connell & Shaw, was dedicated on July 26, 1925, and features a soaring parabolic arch, beautiful stained-glass windows, and a seven-fold layered facade. Despite damage from the 1938 hurricane, the church was lovingly restored and continues to thrive as a vibrant center of worship. Today, Our Lady of Sorrows invites all to deepen their devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, with opportunities to pray the Rosary, attend Eucharistic celebrations, and participate in charitable outreach. With its warm and welcoming community, the parish remains rooted in Catholic tradition while sharing Mary's compassion and hope with the world.
