About
The Saint Augustine Cathedral, located at 399 Washington Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport. Founded in 1843, the cathedral has a rich history, with its present Gothic-Revival edifice being constructed under the direction of renowned architect Patrick C. Keely in 1864 and consecrated in 1869. The cathedral's striking stone tower and spire, completed in 1894, have long been a landmark on Golden Hill. As the seat of the diocese, the cathedral serves as a guiding force for 87 parishes and approximately 460,000 faithful throughout Fairfield County. With daily Mass, vibrant liturgical music, and extensive religious-education programs, the cathedral welcomes all to encounter the love of Christ and grow in holiness. The compassionate clergy and community embody the cathedral's mission to proclaim the Gospel, serve the needy, and build bridges between the Lord and His Church, providing a nurturing environment for pilgrims to pray, worship, and be nourished by the Holy Eucharist.
